Sheffield Hallam University have partnered with international football training provider Massive Soccer and Sheffield FC to offer the Massive Soccer UK Programme. US students can spend a year at Sheffield Hallam studying a course of their choice, whilst working closely with the SHU sports facilities for strength and conditioning, and the Sheffield FC team to develop and hone their soccer skills including earning coaching qualifications.
This brand new offering needed to be promoted out to potential students through the Massive Soccer and Sheffield Hallam University websites as well as through social media. They wanted to create a promotional video which would sum up the offering in a punchy minute, whilst also building excitement and passion in the viewer, but they weren't quite sure how.
We were told we would have access to the university facilities, as well as Sheffield FC's pitch during a match day, as well as Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield FC evening training sessions. When SHU approached us with this brief, they didn't know how to communicate the message, or what story to tell on screen. A big selling point for the course is that the students get to train with the first ever football club, Sheffield FC wrote the rules of football, so this was the angle we wanted to hone in on. So we put together an initial script which summarised everything the programme offers, in a way which inspired the viewer. We designed a storyboard to match the script using the locations and events we had been given access to.
Working with the Sheffield Hallam FC and Sheffield FC first teams was amazing fun, and we were given a great set of participants to use as our narrative drivers for the film. We filmed over the course of two days to collect all content for the storyboard. Once edited we really saw the storyboard come to life. The resulting product is one which really encapsulates the excitement of the programme, and fills the viewer with excitement. Give it a watch and see for yourself...
