Kirklees Light Railway is home to Yorkshire’s great little steam trains. Based at Clayton West, near Huddersfield, the trains operate between Clayton West and Shelley in West Yorkshire. This unique tourist attraction is one of our newest clients and we’ve loved building this new exciting relationship over the last few months.
Back in the autumn, Kirklees Light Railway was looking towards the new year and its 2018 leaflet – the tourist attraction was looking for a fresh new look for its printed material with brighter colours and more appealing to a broad range of visitors.
Following a great meeting with the KLR marketing team Script came up with a new look based on retro railway posters as well as bringing an overall brighter look to the leaflet. This was a great foundation for us to build on and develop. To fit in with the retro theme, we re-drew the photos of the trains used at Kirklees which created the overall look the KLR team was striving for. As well as creating a new, more vibrant leaflet, it was still important not to totally stray away from the brand colours used on the logo, which wasn’t changing, with subtle tones of burgundy running through. The Kirklees team was great to work with and open to any thoughts and ideas we brought to the table. Our next suggestion was to change the layout of the leaflet and bring in two extra pages, this would involve have an A3 page which would fold out to showcase the map and special events. We felt this worked well as this really boosted the visual presence of the map and special events in the leaflet as well as creating more space which enabled us to have more freedom in the design.
We were really happy with the finished leaflet and felt we had achieved what we had set out to achieve from the start with the new look. Kirklees Light Railway were great clients to work with from the start and we’re looking forward to future projects. Erin Towey, Marketing Assistant at Kirklees Light Railway said: “We have been really impressed with the work from the team at Script. Our ideas and thoughts have been transformed into high quality designs and collateral materials which match the brief perfectly. Nothing has been too much trouble and we’re excited about future projects!”
